off to nowhere

Everyone needs an artist or tastemaker to revisit time after time. It is exciting to observe the capacity for creativity one person can have. Anytime I need a visual boost I look at Edward Hopper. He is overwhelmingly American and reminds me how alone everyone is. His paintings show the American style, architecture, fashion in its prime, before the invasion of a visual free-for-all that surrounds us now. He just presents the person, the area, and the sunlight or in some cases the florescent light. He cares for his subjects and wants them to be observed and cherished. His paintings are effortless as photos.

Print one of these out and keep on your fridge, mirror, or in your car. They make every space more important.
